The son of a businessman from Martintar, Nadi, is seeking answers after the tragic drowning of his father in the Mamanuca Group waters two weeks ago. Zou Fan, 52, affectionately known as Andy to locals, was an executive at the tourist agency Fabulous Holiday and is now mourned as Fiji’s latest drowning victim.
“He was a very happy and kind man, always smiling and making those around him feel cherished and loved,” his son, Zou Junjie, reminisced, his sorrow evident. Mr. Zou stated that a New Zealand couple found his father’s body while snorkeling near the Malamala Beach Club.
“My dad took a group of 80 Chinese tourists to explore the island beach club, and afterwards, they went snorkeling. After some time, nobody could find him on the island,” he shared, expressing deep grief.
Brad Rutherford, chief executive officer of South Sea Cruises, confirmed the unfortunate news, saying, “We were aware of a death, but we cannot be certain it was due to drowning. We are currently awaiting the autopsy report.”
Andy leaves behind his two sons and his mother, creating a significant void in their lives. Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu confirmed that the incident took place on October 18 at 4 PM. “He drowned, and an investigation is underway,” he stated, as the family hopes for clarity during this difficult time.
