The body of a five-year-old girl, who tragically lost her life due to powerful river currents, has been discovered along the Waisomo River. The unfortunate incident occurred while she was crossing the river with seven peers and her 32-year-old aunt, shortly after the group had gathered edible lady fern.
Local authorities were notified about the incident by the village leader, known as the Turaga ni koro, from Naituvatuvavatu village. The girl’s remains have since been transported to Korovou Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
This tragic event highlights the importance of water safety and supervision for children in areas with unpredictable water conditions. It serves as a somber reminder for communities to reinforce safety measures and awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
