A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening in Rakiraki, resulting in the death of a five-year-old boy after being struck by a vehicle at the Fiji Sugar Corporation grounds. The accident took place at approximately 7 PM, shortly after a day-long church rally concluded and participants were preparing to depart.
According to police spokesperson Ana Naisoro, the child, who was from Burelevu, Ra, was hit by a vehicle that was reversing, driven by a 19-year-old relative of the victim. The child was swiftly taken to Rakiraki Hospital but unfortunately was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
