Shelly Singh was speaking on the phone with her partner, Bisun Lal, when she suddenly heard a loud noise, followed by silence on the line. Despite her repeated attempts to call him back, the phone continued to ring unanswered, leaving her unaware that Mr. Lal, aged 45, had just been involved in a fatal road accident.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Laqere Bridge in Nasinu while Mr. Lal was on the phone with her. According to police reports, he allegedly crossed the road abruptly and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man.
Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic and Senior Superintendent of Police, stated that investigations are ongoing, and the driver will be questioned once the postmortem examination is complete.
Ms. Singh remembers Mr. Lal as a compassionate individual and now finds solace only in the memories they shared. Recollecting her frantic attempts to reach him, she expressed, “I tried calling back, but it just kept ringing.”
This tragic incident underscores the harsh reality of road accidents and the swift changes that can occur in life. The abrupt transition from life to death serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of existence and the importance of cherishing our loved ones.
Every year, discussions around road safety intensify, focusing on defensive driving, proper vehicle use, and the significance of adhering to traffic rules. However, despite these efforts, accidents continue to occur, often resulting in loss of life. This emphasizes the need for ongoing dialogue and action to prevent such tragedies.
The impact of road accidents extends beyond the immediate loss, affecting families and communities and incurring costs related to emergency services and medical care for survivors.
In light of these considerations, it is crucial to prioritize road safety and cultivate a proactive approach to safeguarding lives. Let’s commit to making our roads safer for everyone.
