Tragedy in Cunningham: Man Charged in Child’s Death

A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old child in Cunningham last week.

On Thursday, medical officials notified the Totogo Police after the child was pronounced dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. The police were alerted to the case due to the child’s visible injuries, which were believed to be the result of an assault.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that the accused, who is the partner of the child’s mother, had a prior history of abusive behavior. Further inquiries indicated that he had also allegedly assaulted the child’s three-year-old brother, who was found at the home with injuries.

As a result of the investigation, the police consulted with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and filed formal charges against the man, including one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm.

He is scheduled to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
