A devastating tragedy struck a family when 15-year-old Rihan Ali drowned at Natadola Beach on the Coral Coast on Sunday. Rihan, a Year 11 student at Nadi Muslim College, was enjoying a family picnic when the incident occurred around midday.
His mother, Imrana Ali, expressed her heartbreak, stating that her world has been shattered by the loss of her beloved son. “My world is shattered into pieces because my son whom I loved dearly has left me and gone too soon,” she said.
Rihan’s father, Imran Ali, described his son as well-behaved and an outstanding student. “He loved to take part in religious activities at the Mulomulo mosque,” Mr. Ali shared. He noted that Rihan was diligent in his studies, rarely missing school, and always looked forward to interacting with his friends.
“He was always respectful towards his elders and received awards for embodying exemplary religious values at school,” Mr. Ali added. Mrs. Ali reflected on how her life will change, indicating that she now has to prepare two school lunches instead of three. She recalled that Rihan had insisted on going to the picnic that morning, and despite her concerns about the weather, she ultimately agreed to the outing since school was set to resume on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the events, stating, “The victim was with his family for a picnic at Natadola when the incident happened.” Rihan’s funeral took place yesterday at the Mulomulo Muslim Cemetery.
