A tragedy unfolded at Natadola Beach on Sunday when a 15-year-old boy, Rihan Ali, drowned while on a family picnic. Rihan, a Year 11 student at Nadi Muslim College, is mourned deeply by his mother, Imrana Ali, who expressed her devastation, stating that her world has fallen apart with the loss of her cherished son.
The picnic, which took place around midday, was something Rihan had eagerly anticipated. His father, Imran Ali, remembered him as a well-behaved and bright student who was actively involved in religious activities at the local Mulomulo mosque. Mr. Ali shared that Rihan was a diligent student who rarely missed school and enjoyed attending classes and spending time with friends.
Imrana Ali remarked that adjusting to life with one less child will be challenging, as she now must prepare two school lunches instead of three. She recalled how, despite the change in weather, her second youngest son insisted on going to the picnic, leading her to give in to his wishes.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the incident occurred while Rihan was with his family enjoying the day at Natadola Beach. The funeral for the young boy was held at the Mulomulo Muslim Cemetery.
