Motorists in Nadi should prepare for temporary traffic delays on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, due to the visit of U.S. Secretary of Defense, Mr. Lloyd Austin. The Fiji Police Force will be facilitating escort duties for the delegation, and while there won’t be any road closures, drivers are encouraged to yield to police escorts during this time.
On Friday, police will oversee traffic from Nadi Airport to Votualevu and the Blackrock Camp between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Traffic control measures will then be enforced along the route from Votualevu to Denarau after 5:00 p.m. The same operations will occur on Saturday, starting at 9:00 a.m., as the delegation travels back from Denarau to Nadi International Airport.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, the Director of Operations for the Fiji Police Force, reassured the public that every effort will be made to minimize any disruptions. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation from motorists to ensure the safety and smoothness of the escort operations.
This visit presents a crucial opportunity for diplomatic engagement and collaboration between Fiji and the United States, underlining the importance of international relations in the region. Motorists are reminded that such high-profile visits can be beneficial for local communities and may pave the way for future opportunities and discussions.
In summary, motorists in Nadi are anticipated to face some delays due to the visit from the U.S. Secretary of Defense, but with the cooperation of everyone involved, the impact on travel can be minimized.
