Motorists in Nadi should prepare for temporary traffic delays on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, due to escort duties for the visiting United States Secretary of Defense, Mr. Lloyd Austin, organized by the Fiji Police Force.
While there are no scheduled road closures, drivers are encouraged to yield to police escorts during the delegation’s movements. On Friday, traffic management will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. along the route from Nadi Airport to Votualevu and the Blackrock Camp, ensuring a smooth escort process. After 5:00 p.m., traffic control measures will be in effect along the Votualevu-to-Denarau route as the delegation heads to Denarau.
On Saturday, operations will commence at 9:00 a.m. to facilitate the delegation’s return journey from Denarau to Nadi International Airport. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, who oversees operations for the Fiji Police Force, reassured the public that every effort will be made to minimize delays and called for cooperation from motorists to ensure the safety and efficiency of the operations.
This visit represents an opportunity for strengthening international relations and showcases Fiji’s commitment to hosting dignitaries effectively. While temporary inconveniences may arise due to traffic delays, the visit is poised to foster goodwill and collaboration between Fiji and the United States.
In summary, motorists should be mindful of potential delays in Nadi as the U.S. Defense Secretary’s visit approaches, while understanding the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
