Motorists in Nadi should anticipate temporary traffic delays on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, due to the presence of the United States Secretary of Defense, Mr. Lloyd Austin, who will be visiting Fiji. The Fiji Police Force will be facilitating escort duties during this period.

While there will be no road closures, drivers are encouraged to yield to police escorts accompanying the delegation. On Friday, traffic management will occur from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. along the route from Nadi Airport to Votualevu and from the Blackrock Camp. After this time frame, the delegation will head to Denarau, where additional traffic control measures will be implemented throughout the Votualevu-to-Denarau route after 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, similar traffic management efforts will commence at 9:00 a.m. to assist with the delegation’s travel from Denarau back to Nadi International Airport.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, who is the Director of Operations for the Fiji Police Force, has reassured the public that they are making every effort to minimize delays. He also emphasized the importance of motorists’ cooperation to ensure a safe and efficient escort process.

This event not only emphasizes the significance of international visits but also showcases Fiji’s ability to accommodate high-profile officials. Residents and travelers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly while remaining attentive to the police directives.

Overall, while temporary disruptions might occur, they highlight Fiji’s commitment to fostering strong international relationships, which could bring about economic and diplomatic benefits in the future.
