Residents of the Nadi region are being informed of anticipated temporary traffic delays on Friday and Saturday in connection with the visit of United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. According to Senior Superintendent of Police SSP Kasiano Vusonilawe, while there will not be any road closures, drivers are encouraged to yield to the escorting team when necessary.
On Friday, from 3 PM to 5 PM, police personnel will be stationed from Nadi International Airport to Votualevu and then to Blackrock camp to help manage traffic as the delegation arrives. Following this, the delegation is set to head towards Denarau after 5 PM, with further traffic control efforts in place along this route.
On Saturday, starting at 9 AM, the public is asked to cooperate with traffic officers who will be overseeing the flow of traffic from Denarau back to Nadi International Airport. SSP Vusonilawe assured that traffic operations will be designed to limit delays as much as possible, urging everyone to work alongside authorities during this period.
This visit signifies an important diplomatic engagement, reflecting the ongoing collaboration between Fiji and the United States. While traffic delays may be inconvenient, they represent a moment for the local community to support and acknowledge international relations. By cooperating with traffic management, residents can contribute to a smooth experience for both visitors and the community.
In summary, the traffic control during Secretary Austin’s visit is an opportunity for Fiji to showcase its hospitality and commitment to fostering strong international ties.
