Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka emphasized that tourism serves not only as a vital economic driver for the country but also as a unifying force that connects different cultures, promotes mutual understanding, and fosters global peace.
While addressing the gathering on World Tourism Day 2024, Gavoka pointed out that tourism is fundamental to the economy, as it provides livelihoods for countless individuals and significantly contributes to national development.
“Beyond the economic advantages, tourism is essential for bringing people together, dismantling barriers, and establishing enduring relationships,” he noted.
Gavoka highlighted Fiji’s dedication to promoting peace through tourism, which is reflected in various initiatives that encourage cultural exchange and understanding. He mentioned the government’s commitment to enhancing tourism in Fiji through several pivotal initiatives, such as the recently launched ‘Na Vualiku Program for Vanua Levu,’ designed to elevate tourism in the Northern Division by developing infrastructure and marketing local attractions.
As Fiji commemorates World Tourism Day, the Deputy Prime Minister urged all to reaffirm their dedication to using tourism as a means to foster peace.
“Tourism has the capacity to unite us, nurture understanding, and promote a more peaceful world,” Gavoka stated.
Looking ahead, he urged everyone to adhere to the principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and respect to ensure that tourism continues to be a unifying force that advances global harmony.
