Solar Hub Fiji has completed the installation of a solar energy system at the Tourism Fiji headquarters, marking a significant advancement in sustainable energy efforts. Yogesh Chand, the founder and CEO of Solar Hub Fiji, praised Tourism Fiji for its proactive initiative in adopting renewable energy solutions.

“Tourism Fiji’s choice to utilize solar power demonstrates true leadership,” Chand said. “By investing in clean energy, they are not only lowering their operational expenses but also setting a motivating example for other organizations throughout the Pacific. We are pleased to support their dedication to a greener and more sustainable future.”

Leigh Howard, the chief operations officer of Tourism Fiji, highlighted that this project is part of a larger commitment to show that sustainability is both practical and advantageous in various aspects. “With commitment and determination, investing in sustainable practices is indeed worthwhile,” Howard remarked. “We are proud to be among the first organizations to utilize solar energy to power our vehicles and office! As the tourism industry in Fiji grows, our proactive approach to renewable energy will serve as a blueprint for other businesses and organizations.”

Solar Hub Fiji is committed to providing innovative solar solutions that assist businesses in reducing costs while minimizing their environmental impact. This partnership symbolizes a key development in Fiji’s renewable energy sector, and both organizations are excited about progressing toward a more sustainable future together.

Tourism Fiji noted that the modern installation features 88 high-efficiency 550-watt solar panels along with a 50-kW inverter, anticipated to produce 74,767 kWh of clean energy each year. The partnership has already seen the installation of Fiji’s first solar-powered electric vehicle charger, which currently supports five BYD electric vehicles within the Tourism Fiji fleet.

“This innovative approach is already contributing to the decrease of the tourism sector’s carbon footprint and advancing Fiji’s long-term environmental objectives, solidifying its leadership in sustainable practices,” the statement from the organization outlined. “The advantages of this solar installation extend beyond just energy cost reduction. It will also eliminate the release of 36 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.”
