Tonga Ready to Battle Samoa in Pacific Bowl Showdown!

The Tonga women’s rugby league team is fully prepared to face Samoa in the Pacific Bowl Championship, taking place at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Tongan international Metanoia Fotu-Moala emphasized their determination to secure a victory, acknowledging Samoa’s strong reputation in the sport.

Fotu-Moala stated, “During our preparations, we know Samoa is a very good team. We are focused on our own strengths and what we can do as a team.” She recently made headlines as the first signing from local rugby league for the One New Zealand Warriors, who are re-entering the NRLW (National Rugby League Women) next year.

At 25 years old, Fotu-Moala is the third member of her family to sign with an NRLW team, following her older sister Teuila, a winner of the 2018 premiership with Brisbane, and her twin sister Maatuleio, who just completed her first season with the Dragons. Known as Noia, she is the Warriors’ 11th signing and the first to come directly from grassroots rugby league in New Zealand.

The Tongan team is aware of the hard work required to reclaim their spot in the Pacific Cup Championship, with Samoa having the same aspirations. Photu-Moala expressed that they draw inspiration from past players like Mele Hufanga, who continue to motivate the current team.

When discussing the team’s strengths, she remarked, “We all come from different backgrounds and we are honored to represent our nation. It is a very warming experience and we will play this Saturday for our supporters.” She also mentioned the positive spirit within the team leading up to the match and their eagerness to deliver a strong performance.
