Tilak High School: Champions of the National Team Mathematics Competition!

Tilak High School has been declared the champions of the 2024 National Team Mathematics Competition (TMC). The event took place at LDS College in Suva, gathering students from various schools nationwide to demonstrate their mathematical abilities.

The victorious team was captained by Shaeez Khan, with guidance from Mathematics teacher Ana Vatubula. The assistant principal remarked, “This victory is the result of the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students.” Their efforts bore fruit, as the Year 11 and Year 13 teams secured first place, while the Year 12 team achieved second place.

Earlier in the year, during Week 10 of Term 2, Team Tilak was recognized as the zonal runner-up at a competition hosted by SVC, which laid the foundation for their national success.

Mr. Narayan highlighted the need for a shift in the school mindset regarding mathematics, stating, “One thing that needs to change in schools is the mentality towards maths. Maths is a great motivator – it starts from zero and never ends.”

Tilak High School’s remarkable performance in this competition showcases the relentless dedication of the Mathematics and Physics department teachers who invested significant time in training the students. Their hard work not only brought pride to the school but also served as an inspiration for younger students to excel in mathematics.

The team celebrated their achievement, proudly holding their trophies, which reflect their hard-earned success and the school’s ongoing excellence in academic competitions. With these accomplishments, Tilak High School continues to elevate its standards, maintaining its reputation as one of Fiji’s foremost institutions for academic excellence.
