Energy Fiji Limited has reported that a significant thunderstorm accompanied by lightning affected the Monasavu area, leading to disruptions in power supply due to a lightning strike on the transmission line.
According to Acting Chief Operating Officer Bobby Naimawi, at 6 am today, the company’s 132,000-volt transmission lines from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka experienced a trip, resulting in power outages across parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.
Fortunately, Naimawi confirmed that EFL teams worked swiftly to restore service, successfully re-energizing the main transmission line, and by 8:30 am, the power supply had been fully restored.
This incident highlights the company’s resilience and commitment to quickly addressing power outages, ensuring that affected customers have their service restored in a timely manner. It’s a testament to the effective emergency response strategies EFL has in place.
