Energy Fiji Limited has reported that a significant thunderstorm accompanied by lightning affected the Monasavu area, leading to disruptions in power supply due to a lightning strike on the transmission line.

According to Acting Chief Operating Officer Bobby Naimawi, at 6 am today, the company’s 132,000-volt transmission lines from Wailoa to Cunningham Road in Suva and Wailoa to Vuda in Lautoka experienced a trip, resulting in power outages across parts of the Central and Western Divisions of Viti Levu.

Fortunately, Naimawi confirmed that EFL teams worked swiftly to restore service, successfully re-energizing the main transmission line, and by 8:30 am, the power supply had been fully restored.

This incident highlights the company’s resilience and commitment to quickly addressing power outages, ensuring that affected customers have their service restored in a timely manner. It’s a testament to the effective emergency response strategies EFL has in place.

In summary, though thunderstorms can pose challenges, EFL’s prompt action ensured minimal disruption for residents and businesses in the affected areas.
