Three men have been remanded at Suva’s Magistrates Court on serious charges related to the possession of illicit drugs and assault. The individuals, identified as 29-year-old Lemeki Baleiwai, 27-year-old Maciu Jiuta, and 23-year-old Asaeli Susewa, appeared before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza for their arraignment.

Baleiwai faces a count of possession of illegal drugs, specifically marijuana, while Jiuta and Susewa are charged with the serious assault of two police officers during a raid related to the drug investigation. The Court was informed by the Police Prosecutor that the necessary disclosures have been provided to the defendants, and their legal counsel has confirmed receipt of this information.

The case has been scheduled for a bail hearing and further discussion in Court Four on November 29.

As the judicial process unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related offenses and ensure public safety. This situation illustrates the challenges faced in maintaining law and order, but also highlights the legal system’s commitment to addressing such issues appropriately.

In light of the serious nature of these charges, it is essential for the community to remain vigilant and support efforts aimed at reducing drug-related crime, seeking pathways for rehabilitation and prevention that can positively impact society in the long run.
