The Fiji Police Force has taken action by identifying individuals who allegedly threatened the Verma family following the viral video of their son, Bhavik Verma. This video featured Illiesa Toga, a security guard involved in a recent car accident, where he made an apology while unaware he was being recorded.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that the police are aware of the threats directed towards the Verma family, which were reportedly made through text messages and phone calls. Following the video’s release, Toga received an outpouring of support, while the Verma family faced backlash.
ACPO Driu stated, “The report was received at Samabula Police Station.” He further noted that the police have reached out to those involved in making the threats and that investigations are currently in progress.
Sanjay Verma, Bhavik’s father, has expressed concerns regarding the family’s safety and has requested increased police patrols around their home in Suva. Despite the backlash faced by the Verma family, the community response to Toga has been largely positive, with people praising him for his honesty. Over FJD$3300 has been raised in support of Toga through M-PAiSA transfers from both local and international supporters.
In a commendable gesture, Toga has urged the public to refrain from hostility towards the Verma family, promoting a message of unity and compassion during this difficult time.
This situation emphasizes the need for understanding and grace in the community, as well as the importance of responsible behavior online. It is heartening to see the community come together to support an individual in need while also ensuring that transitional tensions can be resolved amicably.
In summary, while the Verma family faces challenges stemming from the situation, there is a hopeful narrative around kindness and support from the community towards Mr. Toga, promoting healing and understanding.
