More than a hundred tennis players from Fiji and the Pacific are set to compete in the Vodafone Suva Open Tennis Championship, which begins today.

The event has sparked excitement among members of the Suva Tennis Executive Committee, particularly Manu’hapai Jioji Qaqaturaga, who noted the growth and recognition of local tennis athletes. Qaqaturaga pointed out the unique challenges and advantages that tennis presents as a sport and encouraged participants to display their skills and learn from one another throughout the tournament.

Suva Tennis coach Andrew Mailtorok, who previously represented the national team, shared his thoughts on the importance of the championship. He stated that the event would open more opportunities for young players to succeed and ultimately elevate the sport in Fiji.

“It will be a great opportunity for the young players to build their confidence and improve as tennis players in the future,” Mailtorok remarked, urging the community to come out and support the event.

The Vodafone Suva Open Tennis Championship will run from September 13 to 16 at various venues, including the Victoria Tennis Court, Suva Lawn Tennis Club, and Pathik Tennis Club in Namadi Heights.
