Telecom Fiji has announced a partnership with Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider of critical communication technology solutions, a development that promises to enhance internet connectivity for users in Fiji.
As part of the agreement, Kordia will establish a significant North transmission network in Vanua Levu, linking the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange through advanced Ciena transmission equipment. This project represents a key advancement in improving Fiji’s telecommunications infrastructure. Telecom Fiji’s CEO, Charles Goundar, highlighted the collaboration as a crucial move toward enhancing the capacity and reliability of the network, particularly in Vanua Levu.
Goundar stated, “The new transmission network will support the increasing demand for high-speed connectivity and digital services throughout Fiji, allowing us to provide stronger and more scalable solutions for our customers.” He reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Fiji’s digital transformation through this partnership.
Kordia brings extensive experience in designing and maintaining critical networks and communication infrastructure across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific region. They worked in close collaboration with Ciena, a global leader in optical and routing systems, to create a tailored solution that meets the needs of Telecom Fiji.
Brent La Franchie, Executive General Manager of Kordia’s Solutions division, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “We’re looking forward to delivering this initiative, bringing cutting-edge, future-proof connectivity to the people of Fiji.” He emphasized the importance of leveraging expertise to ensure a smooth and high-quality deployment.
Kordia has already made significant contributions in the region, including the installation of Ciena equipment in Vanuatu, work on Fintel’s marine cable network in Fiji, and providing fibre testing services for Tonga Telecom. The collaboration between Telecom Fiji, Kordia, and Ciena is expected to facilitate a seamless rollout of the North transmission network, paving the way for improved connectivity, reliability, and capacity in Fiji’s digital landscape.
