Telecom Fiji and Kordia Join Forces for a Digital Revolution

Telecom Fiji has announced a partnership with Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider of essential communication technology solutions, which is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity for users in Fiji.

As part of this agreement, Kordia will establish a crucial North transmission network in Vanua Levu, linking the Savusavu Submarine Cable Station to the Labasa Exchange through advanced Ciena transmission equipment. This initiative represents a significant advancement in reinforcing Fiji’s telecommunications framework. Telecom Fiji’s CEO, Charles Goundar, emphasized that the collaboration with Kordia is essential for expanding network capacity and reliability, particularly for the Vanua Levu region.

Goundar stated, “The new transmission network will cater to the increasing need for high-speed connectivity and digital services throughout Fiji, allowing us to provide even more robust and scalable solutions for our customers.” He reiterated Telecom Fiji’s commitment to driving digital transformation in the nation and how this partnership will facilitate those goals.

Kordia brings extensive experience in designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining critical networks and communication infrastructure across New Zealand, Australia, and the broader Pacific region. They have collaborated closely with Ciena, a leading provider of optical and routing systems, to tailor a solution specifically for Telecom Fiji’s needs.

Brent La Franchie, Executive General Manager of Kordia’s Solutions division, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration to deliver this significant infrastructure project. “We are eager to bring cutting-edge, future-proof connectivity to the people of Fiji,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of working closely with Telecom Fiji to ensure a smooth and high-quality deployment.

Kordia’s notable accomplishments in the region include the installation of Ciena equipment at subsea fiber landing stations in Vanuatu, Fintel’s marine cable network in Fiji, and fiber training and testing for Tonga Telecom. They have also provided consultancy services for Telecom Fiji’s optical fiber network, reinforcing their position as a trusted partner.

Telecom Fiji asserts that the joint efforts with Kordia and Ciena will guarantee a successful, high-quality rollout of the North transmission network, setting the stage for improved connectivity, reliability, and capacity across Fiji’s digital ecosystem.
