A 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, and an 18-year-old named Devekuta Ledua Vererua have been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court in Suva following allegations of raping a 13-year-old boy in Lami last month. The three individuals appeared before Magistrate Pulekeria Low. Each has been charged with one count of rape.
According to allegations, the incident occurred on August 30, 2024, at a relative’s home of the victim. Additionally, the court heard that the 17-year-old is facing a separate charge of sexual harassment for reportedly harassing an 18-year-old woman last month.
It was also disclosed in court that Vererua, the third defendant, had previously been charged with one count of rape in 2021. This matter has been moved to the High Court, where it is scheduled for a first mention on August 27.
