Teacher Shortages: Tackling an Ongoing Challenge in Naitasiri Education

The Ministry of Education addressed the shortage of primary school teachers during the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting held in Tamavua Village, Suva. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro acknowledged the issue, stating that it had been a significant challenge for many schools in the province.

Radrodro emphasized the need for action, explaining that the shortage of primary school teachers is a legacy issue inherited by the Coalition Government. To tackle this, the ministry has begun recruiting secondary school graduates who are interested in teaching at the primary level.

The minister also highlighted concerns regarding the need for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. He noted that they are partnering with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) in the upcoming year to enhance the recruitment of teacher trainees.

Radrodro encouraged students in the province to aspire for high achievements, urging them to think beyond traditional classroom boundaries. He reiterated that opportunities exist and encouraged students to remain focused on their goals, always prioritizing their faith in their pursuits.
