The Ministry of Education addressed the shortage of primary school teachers during the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting held yesterday in Tamavua Village, Suva. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro acknowledged the ongoing issue, stating that it affects many schools throughout the province.

Radrodro noted that the teacher shortage is a longstanding problem passed down to the current Coalition Government. In an effort to mitigate this, the ministry is actively recruiting secondary school graduates who are interested in teaching at the primary level.

The minister also highlighted concerns about the need for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. To improve the situation, the ministry is collaborating with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) to enhance the recruitment of teacher trainees in the upcoming calendar year.

He encouraged students in the province to aim high, telling them to look beyond classroom walls and to pursue their goals with confidence and determination, always keeping faith as a priority.

The meeting took place at Tamavua Village.
