A significant issue brought to the attention of the Ministry of Education during the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting in Tamavua Village, Suva, was the shortage of primary school teachers. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro acknowledged the problem and stated that the ministry is actively working to find solutions.

“The lack of teachers has been a persistent challenge for several schools in the province. We recognize this and are committed to providing the necessary support,” Mr. Radrodro commented. He indicated that the shortage is a legacy concern inherited from the Coalition Government and mentioned efforts to recruit secondary school teacher graduates willing to teach at the primary level.

He also noted that the need for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects has been highlighted. “We are collaborating with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) in the upcoming calendar year to enhance the recruitment of teacher trainees,” he added. This initiative aims to encourage graduates to fill the most critical needs in education.

Mr. Radrodro encouraged students in the province to aspire for greatness, saying, “Dream beyond the walls of the classroom. There are always opportunities available, so believe in yourself as you work towards your goals. Stay focused on your objectives and prioritize your faith in all your pursuits.”
