Loata Rokowati Cavei, a teacher at Bau Central College, has observed a concerning trend of young students dropping out of school over the past three years. To address this issue and promote the welfare of children, the 26-year-old plans to use the upcoming 2024 Vodafone Nasinu Festival as a platform to advocate for youth engagement and community support.

Representing the Makoi community and sponsored by Mindpearl Fiji Ltd, Ms. Cavei highlighted the critical role of family backing in preventing school dropouts. “If I were to implement change in my community, it would be to re-examine the reasons behind the rising number of students leaving school, which contributes to youth unemployment,” she stated.

She emphasized the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” asserting that she would discuss the significance of support from family, community, and schools in a child’s education.

The Vodafone Nasinu Festival is scheduled to take place from August 17 to August 24.
