Experienced utility player Manasa Nawakula netted a decisive goal in the 104th minute as Tavua secured a 1-0 victory over the youthful and determined Nasinu team in the Premier Division final of the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) held at Churchill Park in Lautoka today.
The match was tightly contested, with both sides unable to score during the regular ninety minutes, despite several opportunities to take the lead.
Nawakula, a former national player and defender for Ba and Lautoka, who played in an attacking role for the Dr. Diva Singh-coached team, made his mark midway through the first half of extra time by placing the ball past goalkeeper Emori Ragata.
Nasinu, featuring promising young talents such as Maikah Dau, Raul Chandra, alongside seasoned players Jone Naraba and Nasoni Mereki, searched fervently for an equalizer. However, Tavua’s resilient defense held strong until the final whistle, allowing them to secure the championship title.
Tavua is awarded $6,000 for their victory in the Premier Division, while Nasinu will receive $2,000 as runners-up.
