Tavua Triumphs in Nail-Biting IDC Final with Late Goal

Manasa Nawakula, a seasoned utility player, scored a crucial goal in the 104th minute, leading Tavua to a 1-0 victory over a youthful and determined Nasinu team in the Premier Division final of the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) held at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

The anticipated final was a tightly contested match, with both sides unable to score in the standard ninety minutes, despite numerous opportunities. Nawakula, who has previously played for the national team and teams such as Ba and Lautoka, showcased his skills by striking mid-way through the first half of extra time, directing the ball past goalkeeper Emori Ragata.

Nasinu, featuring promising players like Maikah Dau and Raul Chandra, along with veterans Jone Naraba and Nasoni Mereki, fiercely attempted to secure an equalizer. Nevertheless, Tavua’s steadfast defense held strong until the final whistle, ensuring their victory.

As champions of the Premier Division, Tavua received a prize of $6,000, while Nasinu walked away with $2,000.
