The Tavua Town Council has stated that it does not hold authority over individuals who are publicly intoxicated and disorderly, according to acting CEO Sireli Korovulavula. His comments come in response to media coverage regarding the issue.
Korovulavula expressed concern about the negative behavior of a small group of individuals which reflects poorly on the entire Tavua community. He emphasized the responsibility of local businesses to work collaboratively in addressing this problem.
“Intoxicating drinks are either legally or illegally sourced, and it is crucial we come together to eliminate this issue as soon as possible,” he asserted.
Supporting the community’s safety initiatives, Korovulavula highlighted the Fiji Police Force’s recent launch of a festive season operation in Tavua, noting the council’s full support for this three-month initiative aimed at combating crime effectively.
Furthermore, he mentioned ongoing discussions with authorities about advancing critical infrastructure development in the town.
This concerted effort showcases how community leaders and the police are working hand in hand to foster a safer environment for all residents. It signals hope for a prosperous future where community collaboration leads to tangible improvements.
In summary, the Tavua Town Council is actively addressing public disorder linked to alcohol consumption, calling for unity in efforts to resolve these challenges. With the police’s support and emphasis on infrastructure progress, there is potential for significant positive change in the community.
