The Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) in Suva was the venue for a special event featuring renowned Texan Chef Greg Pawlowski, celebrating Fiji Airways’ new flight route from Dallas to Fiji. Held on Tuesday night, the gathering showcased Chef Pawlowski’s talent for blending traditional Texan flavors with fresh local ingredients found in Fiji.
The menu featured a variety of dishes, including slow-smoked BBQ brisket, Tex-Mex street tacos, and delectable desserts like Mississippi Mud Pie, highlighting the rich culinary heritage of Texas. Lachlan Walker, the portfolio general manager for IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed his enthusiasm for promoting the new route through these culinary celebrations, which will continue with other themed events at both the Natadola and Suva hotels.
Walker mentioned his enthusiasm for a special peach cobbler served at the event, crafted using local spirits, and announced plans for upcoming events featuring guest chefs specializing in Indian cuisine in December, as well as an event in January highlighting African delicacies with a chef from Adelaide.
GPH’s general manager, Robert Clark, noted the excitement of incorporating different cooking styles, which has not only been enjoyable for the guests but has also provided valuable learning experiences for the local culinary team. Chef Pawlowski shared his delight at being part of the festivities and expressed pride in bringing a taste of Dallas to Fiji.
This event is part of a larger initiative by IHG to celebrate the new Dallas flights, which are set to begin on December 13, and pave the way for future culinary experiences that will enrich both the local community and visitors alike.
Overall, this event serves as a shining example of cultural exchange, where culinary traditions meet, creating new opportunities for learning and enjoyment. It also highlights the exciting travel connections between Texas and Fiji, promising to enhance both tourism and gastronomy in the region.
