The Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) in Suva recently hosted renowned Texas Chef Greg Pawlowski to celebrate Fiji Airways’ newest route connecting Dallas to Fiji. The event took place on a Tuesday night and showcased a menu that highlighted both traditional Texan cuisine and the fresh local ingredients of Fiji.

Chef Pawlowski, celebrated for his innovative approach to Texan cooking, prepared a variety of dishes that included slow-smoked BBQ brisket and Tex-Mex street tacos, topped off with desserts like Mississippi Mud Pie. Lachlan Walker, the portfolio general manager of IHG Hotels & Resorts which manages GPH, emphasized the importance of celebrating the launch of the Dallas flights, scheduled for December 13, through this culinary experience. Walker mentioned a delightful peach cobbler as a standout dessert from the event, which aimed to promote the excitement revolving around the new route.

Looking ahead, Walker announced plans for additional events featuring guest chefs specializing in different cuisines, including Indian in December and African in January. GPH’s general manager, Robert Clark, noted the benefit of introducing varied cooking styles to the local team, remarking on the fun and learning atmosphere in the kitchen during Pawlowski’s time at the hotel.

Chef Pawlowski shared his appreciation for the event, reflecting on his hometown of Dallas and the excitement surrounding the newly available direct flight. The celebration served as part of a larger IHG initiative that included events at both the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and GPH, aiming to foster community connections through culinary arts.

This event not only brought a taste of Texas to Fiji but also showcased the collaboration and cultural exchange that can arise from international partnerships. Such gatherings can enrich the local culinary scene and create memorable experiences for both residents and visitors alike.

In a world where travel and cultural exchange can enhance understanding and appreciation of different customs, this celebration stands as a bright example of how food can bring people together.
