The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, has stated that water scarcity is a significant concern in the country that the Coalition Government is determined to tackle comprehensively. Addressing the issue in Parliament, Tuisawau noted that the challenges extend beyond just infrastructure, including the impacts of climate change and periods of drought.
He highlighted that the government has implemented several measures to mitigate these water-related challenges. Among these initiatives are water rationing and scheduling programs aimed at helping communities manage water shortages more effectively.
Tuisawau mentioned the introduction of free water tank schemes, which have been made available in various rural and affected areas, with the program still ongoing. This initiative allows residents to store water during shortages, while another temporary solution involves the construction of temporary cofferdams.
He emphasized that these efforts are part of both immediate responses and long-term strategies to ensure a sustainable water supply.
