Lynda Tabuya, the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, has backed Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu as the next President of Fiji. In her statement, Ms. Tabuya commended the Tui Cakau’s leadership and advocacy for increased representation of women in leadership roles.

She noted her personal experiences with Ratu Naiqama during his time as Leader of the Opposition and as Speaker of the Parliament, highlighting his fair leadership and dedication to gender equality. “Throughout my career as a woman leader, I always felt valued as an equal partner in the decision-making process,” Ms. Tabuya remarked. She acknowledged Ratu Naiqama’s efforts to ensure that women leaders are given visibility and that their contributions are recognized.

Ms. Tabuya emphasized the importance of having male allies for advancing gender equality and expressed confidence that Ratu Naiqama would champion these values if elected as President.

Ratu Naiqama has accepted Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s proposal to be the government’s nominee for the presidency, succeeding Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, who recently withdrew his nomination. The vote for the next President will take place on October 31.
