The 31st Druavesi Golf Tournament, organized by the Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association, commenced today at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, with charity at its core. Amit Maharaj, chief marketing officer for Pacific Energy, emphasized the significance of the tournament during a presentation where the company donated $4,000, highlighting their long-standing partnership since 2011.

Maharaj noted that the tournament stands out not only for its charitable contributions back to the community but also for its inclusivity, allowing participation from both alumni of QVS and other secondary schools, as well as current students. The tournament, named after Master Netani Druavesi, who was an influential teacher at QVS for decades, aims to honor his legacy. Druavesi began teaching in 1942 and had a lasting impact until his retirement in 1977.

The event involves a four-person Ambrose format, with registration opening at 9 am and tee-off scheduled for 10 am. Rewa House, the defending champions, will be looking to retain their title this year.

This tournament not only fosters sportsmanship but also reinforces the spirit of giving back to the community, reflecting the values instilled by Master Druavesi. Such events promote unity and support for those in need, showcasing how sports can serve as a positive force for change.

In summary, the Druavesi Golf Tournament exemplifies the power of community involvement and the positive influence of educational institutions on society.
