The Hibiscus Festival 2024 has breathed new life into the streets of Suva City, infusing the community with a lively spirit. Opetaia Ravai, the chairman of the Hibiscus Festival, voiced his heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a part in making the event a success.
The festival wrapped up yesterday with a float parade, where the queens and their teams courageously navigated heavy rain throughout Suva City. Ravai remarked that the city truly needed such an event, particularly after the hardships experienced since the pandemic.
“We hope everyone enjoyed the week of activities,” he stated. “Suva needed something like this after a five-year hiatus, and I believe it has been a beneficial development.”
Looking to the future, he expressed hopefulness for upcoming festivals, saying, “There’s always room for improvement, and I’m confident that the Hibiscus Festival will continue to expand, bringing even more joy to everyone.”
The streets of Suva were filled with hundreds of spectators from the Flea Market to Ratu Sukuna Park, all gathered to witness the float procession. However, earlier strong winds had caused some disruption by tearing corrugated iron off a stall, raising concerns about the stability of festival booths. Officials have not yet provided any updates regarding the incident.
