An investigation into the fire that destroyed the Defence Club in Suva in February has determined that it was caused by arson. Puamau Sowane, the chief executive officer of the National Fire Authority, confirmed this in a statement yesterday, noting that the investigation has wrapped up.
Sowane explained that the report indicated the fire’s cause was classified as arson based on its origin and source. The investigation file has now been submitted to the Fiji Police Crime Office, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa, who has acknowledged receiving the file. Waqa stated that they will review the investigation report from the National Fire Authority to determine the fire’s point of origin and proceed from there.
