Suva Rugby’s Escott Shield Showdown: Can Police Blue Triumph Over Navy?

Suva rugby head coach Solo Nute is relying on Police Blue to successfully defend the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield against Navy in the grand final scheduled for Saturday, September 21.

Nute expressed his support for the Police team, stating, “I hope they do well against Navy.” He emphasized the importance of this final as there are no other competitions like the Skipper Cup, making the focus solely on the Escott Shield.

He highlighted the need for Police players to enhance their fitness levels and maintain better control during scrums. “Game management must be a priority so they have more scoring options,” he noted.

With the Hibiscus Festival now concluded, Nute encouraged Suva supporters to turnout in large numbers to back their teams in the final.

Looking ahead, Nute mentioned that Suva will commence its pre-season training in January next year, noting the need to align with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) event calendar. He also pointed out the potential of incorporating players from the FRU High Performance Unit and the Suva setup.

The coach is optimistic about bringing in some Fiji Under-20 players into his squad. “We aim to blend experienced and young players to strengthen our player pool ahead of the next Skipper Cup selection,” he concluded.
