Suva Rugby Union’s Grand-Final Showdown: Can Police Blue Defend the Escott Shield?

Suva rugby head coach Solo Nute is relying on the Police Blue team to defend the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield against Navy in the grand final scheduled for Saturday, September 21.

Nute expressed his confidence in the Police team, stating, “I’m with the Police team and I hope they do well against Navy.” He emphasized that this final serves as an important preparation opportunity, especially since there are no other competitions like the Skipper Cup currently.

He noted the importance of improving fitness and controlling scrums, adding, “They will need to prioritize game management in order to have more options before scoring points.”

With the Hibiscus Festival concluded, Nute is encouraging Suva supporters to attend the grand final in large numbers to cheer on their teams. Looking ahead, he mentioned that the Suva team will commence pre-season training in January next year, stating, “We just have to see the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) calendar of events and adjust ourselves accordingly.”

Nute is optimistic about the potential recruitment of some Fiji Under-20 players into his squad. He aims to combine experienced and young players to enhance the depth of the team ahead of the next Skipper Cup selections.
