The Suva City Council has announced a five percent salary increase for all its staff members, a decision made following discussions between council members, the special administrator, and the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa. Tevita Boseiwaqa, the SCC’s special administrator and acting CEO, highlighted the hard work of municipal employees in maintaining the cleanliness of Suva, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging their efforts.
Boseiwaqa noted that the pay increase applies to both established and unestablished workers, marking it as part of a broader benefits package offered by the council, which also includes sick leave benefits that were awarded prior to Christmas. In a further effort to support municipal workers, the SCC has regularized all acting positions held for over six months as of December 31, 2024, moving away from contracts to tenureship for roles below the CEO level.
