Suva City Council Empowers Employees with New Training Initiative

The Suva City Council (SCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), offering skilled-based employees the opportunity to enhance their qualifications through various certificate programs. SCC’s acting chief executive officer, Tevita Boseiwaqa, noted that this agreement will benefit over 200 staff members who engage in skill-based work. He emphasized that the MoU targets a significant portion of the workforce, aligning with SCC’s multi-level and multi-skilled approach.

Boseiwaqa mentioned that the council will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific skill areas where staff can utilize the MoU. This analysis aims to identify workforce needs and provide employees with diverse skill sets, allowing for greater professional development and adaptability.

Peni Taoi, founding director of Pacific Polytech, expressed his enthusiasm for the arrangement, indicating that it complements previous agreements with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, which shared similar goals for employee development. He highlighted PP’s focus on technical training and skill enhancement, stating that this MoU stands as a significant addition to their collaborative efforts in improving workforce skills.
