The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has launched a collaborative effort with the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji to promote sustainability during the Diwali celebrations. This initiative is designed to raise consumer awareness regarding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.

The partnership will disseminate regular messages advocating for sustainable practices such as waste reduction, energy and water conservation, ethical shopping, and the promotion of environmentally friendly behaviors. They aim to ensure that their platform highlights the significance of sustainability.

FCCC CEO Joel Abraham expressed that this collaboration signifies a commitment to creating an inclusive, ethical, and sustainable market for Fijians, particularly during the culturally significant time of Diwali. He emphasized the importance of celebrating this festival in a way that respects environmental considerations.

Dhirendra Nand, the National President of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha, noted that their collaboration highlights both organizations’ dedication to ESG goals. He sees it as an opportunity to raise awareness on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to inspire the community toward a more sustainable future.

The Sabha has pointed out that Diwali serves as a significant occasion to illustrate their commitment to environmental stewardship while also encouraging the embrace of sustainable practices alongside spiritual reflection. Nand aims for this initiative to foster a positive shift that encourages sustainability and responsible consumption beyond the festivities of Diwali.

This joint venture reflects a hopeful move toward sustainability, demonstrating the potential for cultural celebrations to intertwine with environmental consciousness. As communities come together to celebrate, they can also cultivate habits that benefit future generations and the planet.
