Suspended DPP’s Hearing Delayed: What’s Next for Pryde?

The case involving the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, was mentioned four days ago, but no hearing date has been established yet. This week, Mr. Pryde’s attorney was informed by the tribunal overseeing his case that they are unable to provide a timeline for when additional affidavits will be completed and served.

In his remarks to the tribunal, the lawyer highlighted that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has not responded to communications regarding the unilateral suspension of Mr. Pryde’s salary. He emphasized that the lack of salary is severely hampering Mr. Pryde’s ability to defend himself.

Mr. Pryde was suspended from his position as DPP in April 2023 due to allegations of misconduct stemming from a conversation he had with then Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at an official event. This interaction was interpreted as a breach of conduct.

Furthermore, Mr. Pryde stated that approximately a year after his suspension, the JSC lodged an additional claim of overpaid superannuation against him, a charge he has firmly denied.
