Land surveying in Fiji is advancing rapidly with the integration of new technology, according to Jitendra Singh, the president of the Fiji Institute of Surveyors. Speaking at the 2024 Fiji Institute of Surveyors Congress held in Nadi, Mr. Singh emphasized the need for ongoing education in new methods, software, and techniques in the field.

He noted that it was promising to see that many surveyors in Fiji are already utilizing modern equipment, including GNSS Lider and drones. “We must keep up with these advancements and not fall behind,” he stated. Mr. Singh expressed confidence in the ability of surveyors to adapt to various challenges, highlighting their resilience.

Throughout their careers, surveyors often face difficulties such as addressing concerns from upset landowners and mediating disputes among families, neighbors, and businesses. “At times, it feels like a battlefield, but it’s all part of our daily responsibilities,” Mr. Singh remarked.
