Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad has publicly expressed his unwavering support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka amidst growing calls for Rabuka’s resignation from critics. During the FBC TV program “Your Voice,” Prasad addressed these concerns following the government’s inability to secure a 75 percent majority vote for the Constitution Amendment Bill 2025.
Prasad suggested that those calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation are merely reflecting their own desperation and lack of viable solutions to the country’s issues, stating that critics should first earn their place in Parliament: “All you hear is statements, shooting here, shooting there… trying to use social media and working with fakers who are based outside of the country to create this,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of credible, policy-driven discourse.
He further defended Rabuka, referencing his historical significance and recent achievements, claiming that the Prime Minister is a true statesman who is committed to engaging with opposition leaders to foster national progress. Prasad urged the two party leaders leading the charge against Rabuka to display generosity and understanding, particularly in light of the genuine desire to modify the 2013 Constitution.
This dialogue echoes earlier sentiments shared by Professor Prasad regarding the importance of mutual respect and collaboration within a coalition government, where differing opinions are inevitable but should be approached with respect. The supportive dynamic between Prasad and Rabuka highlights a commitment to rebuilding trust in governance after years of distrust, suggesting a hopeful outlook for both the government and the nation.
