Last week, Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu presented Cooperative Registrations to fishermen’s groups from Namuana and Solovola villages in Kadavu, specifically to Wailiwa Cooperative Limited and Solovola Cooperative Limited. In a bid to enhance their fishing initiatives, the minister provided fishing gear, including nets and cooler boxes.
Naomi Naio from the Solovola Women’s Club expressed gratitude for this timely support, highlighting its significance in improving their livelihoods and aiding in preparations for the festive season when extended families are expected to gather in the village.
Additionally, as part of the Rural Housing Assistance Programme, housing materials valued at over $35,000 were delivered to Waqavesi Nariu, providing essential help to Vatukoula Gold Mine workers who have faced redundancy.
Bainivalu encouraged cooperatives to take advantage of the growth opportunities available to them. She also expressed her appreciation to Deputy Prime Minister and Trades Minister Manoa Kamikamica, along with Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka, for their contributions in making these initiatives a reality. This effort aims to strengthen and create self-sustaining communities.
The support provided highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in uplifting local communities, particularly during challenging times. As they embrace this assistance, there’s a renewed sense of hope and resilience among the affected families, paving the way towards a more sustainable future.
Overall, these initiatives not only provide immediate relief but also help foster a sense of community and cooperation, essential for long-term development and prosperity.
