On the beautiful Island of Kadavu, the students and teachers of Naceva District School celebrated the arrival of new classrooms and a solar power system, marking a significant enhancement to their educational environment.
At the official handover ceremony, the management of Naceva District School expressed their gratitude for the new classroom furniture and facilities, which were provided through the support of the Japanese Embassy. The project was funded with FJD $377,764.81 from Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program.
Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, formally transferred the new classroom facilities, alongside Her Excellency Charlotte Darlow, the New Zealand High Commissioner, and Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs.
In a dual celebration, High Commissioner Darlow also delivered the school’s new solar power system, which was installed through a partnership between the New Zealand High Commission and Naceva District School in May 2022. This solar system now provides a reliable source of clean energy for classroom lighting, operating office equipment, and enabling internet access.
The Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua thanked the governments of Japan and New Zealand on behalf of the Fijian government, highlighting the project’s positive impact on both students and staff at Naceva District School.
With the introduction of new classrooms, furniture, and the solar power system, the learning environment is set to improve, fostering academic success among students. The New Zealand High Commission and the Japanese Embassy reaffirmed their dedication to supporting Fiji’s educational and community development initiatives.
During their official visit, the Kadavu Provincial Administrator provided an update to Assistant Minister Qereqeretabua, Ambassador Michii, and High Commissioner Darlow regarding ongoing development projects and plans for further improvements in health and education facilities across Kadavu.
