Sugar industry stakeholders convened today to review the status of various government-funded capital projects. The meeting included top executives from key sugar industry institutions, with a focus on ensuring that these projects are executed effectively in line with the guidelines set forth in the Capital Grants Manual.

Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh addressed the stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of their commitment to advancing the sugar industry in line with the National agenda of the Coalition Government. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to achieve the targeted outcomes by implementing capital projects during the 2024-2025 financial year.

The meeting provided strategic direction to stakeholders, including the Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited (FSC), South Pacific Fertilizers Limited (SPFL), Sugar Research Institute of Fiji (SRIF), Sugarcane Growers Council (SCGC), and the Sugarcane Growers Fund. Discussions centered on ensuring that each capital project meets government objectives.

Additionally, the need for a comprehensive strategy for the industry was discussed. Each institution is expected to develop individual Strategic Development Plans aligned with the targets outlined in the National Development Plan. These plans, aimed at steering the industry toward its strategic goals, are set to be finalized by the end of December 2024.
