Starting September 1, 2024, student bus fares will align with adult fares, but the Government will fully subsidize the increased fares for all students holding blue and yellow bus cards.
The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has finalized its review of existing bus fares, adopting a new fare calculation methodology in collaboration with the Fiji Bus Operators Association. This new methodology recommends that student fares match adult fares, while currently, student fares are set at 50 percent of the adult rate.
The Government will continue to provide full subsidies for students with blue cards through the transport assistance scheme. Additionally, it will subsidize the 50 percent fare increase for students using yellow cards.
