Soccer development is encountering major obstacles as fewer businesses are willing to provide support, according to Suva’s coach, Mohammed Hussain. He highlighted that districts are struggling to secure financial backing for the ongoing four-day primary schools inter-district competition in Labasa.

Hussain noted the decline in sponsorship specifically related to primary school soccer and overall sport development. In a recent interview, he emphasized the financial burden of participating in events like the inter-district competition, stating, “Sourcing sponsorship for the four-day competition has proven challenging. Funds are essential for accommodation and other expenses.”

This issue has been a significant hurdle for teams as they prepare for the tournament. He also mentioned that a local school in Labasa has offered accommodation support, acknowledging that many players come from underprivileged backgrounds and require additional assistance.

The competition is set to conclude tomorrow.
