Striking Gold: Will Chinese Investors Bite at Vatukoula?

More convincing strategies are necessary to draw Chinese investors to Vatukoula Gold Mines. This was highlighted after a Chinese delegation held discussions with the Government following an investment assessment of the Vatukoula site. Ian He, a spokesperson for Vatukoula Gold, mentioned that the delegation included representatives who have invested in an Australian mining operation.

“Their visit to Fiji is to explore the investment climate at Vatukoula’s request,” He explained. “Significant efforts are required to persuade them to invest in Vatukoula.”

Their visit was part of a tour in Australia. The issue gained attention after online influencer Alex Forwood raised questions to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo concerning the status of a mining project at Mt Kasi.

While the Government has permitted Vatukoula Gold to conduct mineral exploration at Mt Kasi, the operation has yet to commence due to opposition from landowners in Macuata.
